How Online Chemistry Tutoring Works
Online chemistry tutoring is becoming more and more popular in the recent years. And there’s a good reason for it! Online chemistry tutoring is extremely convenient. So more and more students are looking for a chemistry tutor online. When working with a tutor online, there’s no hurdle of driving to the library or a coffee shop to meet with your tutor. So, you don’t need to deal with traffic, parking, caring things you need for tutoring around, etc. On top of that, when you’re in a public place, you’re constantly destructed or interrupted by other people mingling around. Online chemistry tutoring cal easily alleviate all of that killing all the proverbial birds with one stone! You’re meeting your tutor online from, well, virtually anywhere with an Internet connection. And I mean it–anywhere! For all it’s worth, you could be sitting on your favorite bean bag in your slippers and pj’s with your favorite mug. And at the same time, you’ll be learning! How cool is that?
Here, at Chemistry Help Center, we’ve started teaching online in 2006. Since then, we’ve tried a number of approaches and techniques. We’ve done it all, seriously! And we’ve come up with the best way to work with our online chemistry tutoring students using the combination of Microsoft OneNote and Google Meetings. Let me break it down to give you some more details.
Scheduling the Online Chemistry Tutoring Meeting
When you schedule a meeting with your tutor at Chemistry Help Center, your tutor will use the Google Calendar to schedule the appointment in our system. You’ll get a message that looks like something like this:
If you’re already using Google Calendar, you can click on the “accept” button, and the event will get automatically added to your calendar. We make sure to use the proper time zones, so if you have the time zone support enabled, it will automatically adjust the appointment time too. If you use other calendar program, you can as easily import the event into it. Also, notice the “Joining Info” part contains the link to the meeting room. When you click on it, you’ll see a welcome screen inviting you to enter your online chemistry tutoring session:
You can also adjust your camera and microphone settings before entering the room. If your tutor is already in the room, you’ll see that in the dialogue window right under the “Ready to Join?” When ready, just hit the big green button and you’re ready to go!
During the Online Chemistry Tutoring Meeting
Once in the meeting room, you’ll be able to communicate with your tutor, use the chat window, exchange files, and share screen. During the meeting, we use the Microsoft OneNote shared notebook (we make a separate notebook for each student on our server). Your tutor will share her screen with you, so that you can see and follow the explanations. All notes are instantly synchronized with your OneNote. Thus, the best part is–you can focus on learning and understanding rather than frantic note-taking! You can always come back to the notes later and review what you talked about in the meeting. We also make sure to give you feedback in between the meetings using the OneNote. This way, all your notes are always synchronized in the same place!
If you have any questions, just drop them into the notebook. When your tutor wants to give you some extra practice examples or a useful handout–you’ll see it in your notebook right the way!
We keep the notebook neatly organized throughout our engagement with our students. When you’re done with the semester, we’ll help you save the whole notebook or a part you want to keep for the future reference. This way, you never need to worry about losing that important paper with a trick or accidentally spilling coffee all over your notes!
